This mandatory first-year course tailored to students at the CEFR A1 level focuses on strengthening students' English communication skills for academic contexts. Using a flipped learning approach, students read assigned articles at home and engage in discussion about them in class. Emphasis is placed on building academic vocabulary and developing effective presentation skills. Students give presentations on topics related to the readings, which comrpise the main assessments in the course.

The course is open to all students in the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies. Using a flipped learning approach, students read assigned articles at home and engage in discussion about them in class. Emphasis is placed on building academic vocabulary and developing effective presentation skills. Students give presentations on topics related to SDGs, which comrpise the main assessments in the course.
This elective course leverages the instructor's 3+ years as a certified IELTS speaking test examiner. Students learn the structure and content of the IELTS Speaking and Writing tests and strategies for improving their scores. Through regular practice in test-like conditions, students will become familiar with common questions types, challenges they may encounter, and how to best approach the test.
