My Road to Becoming an Educator

Originally from beautiful (but cold) Winnipeg, Canada, I have spent the majority of the last two decades teaching in Japan. My journey began as a JET in Japan's north in 2006, however I have spent the majority of my time living and working in the Kansai region (southwest Japan). 

This journey has afforded me a myriad of experience - teaching in elementary, junior high and high schools, junior colleges, businesses, and now, for over a decade at the university level. I have presented my research at the TESOL International Convention and served as the plenary speaker at the inaugural Asian Conference for Innovation in Education (link to presentation). As well as publishing in several prominent journals, I have also served as a reviewer for Higher Education, International Journal for Educational Integrity and International Journal of Leadership in Education. 

Although my research initially focused on English education, particularly effective use of ed tech and effective L2 writing feedback, I have since pivoted towards academic leadership. Now, I examine the nexus between higher education policy, leadership practice and classroom pedagogy..

I hold a Doctorate of Education - Postsecondary Leadership from the University of Calgary, Canada.  At present, I am a lecturer in the SOLAC at Kobe University. I am an active member of JACET and JALT, and have participated in a variety of academic societies.

In my free time, I enjoy travel, studying languages, and reading.. I try to be active, spending much of my free time cycling, or hiking. このページをご覧いただき、ありがとうございました。
